A YEAR IN PRAYER    "Using God's Word to pray"

The expression “self-control” is obsolete in this self-indulged generation, isn't it?

Do you find it impossible to control yourself in most circumstances?

Isn’t this self-centered generation out of control?

DAY # 171

TODAY’S REQUEST:

FOR THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT:

SELF-CONTROL

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self – control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
2 Peter 1:2-7 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self–control, to self–control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self–control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

HOW DO THE SCRIPTURES TELL US TO EXPRESS THIS REQUEST?

NOT JUST LIVING IN THE SPIRIT, BUT ALSO WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

Genesis 4:6 So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."
Psalms 34:13 Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.
Matthew 5:22 "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
James 1:26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
James 3:6-8 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
